Canon IXUS 220 HS Black

Description
It’s not revolutionary in any particular way, but the Canon IXUS 220 HS is a competent, consistent performer. By contrast a shot taken handheld towards the telephoto end of the zoom; again natural colours and a decent level of detail. Despite its petite size, the ELPH 300 HS / IXUS 220 HS controls are well laid out and big enough to operate with your thumb. It does, however, stand out from the crowd by virtue of its noise-free results at higher ISO settings, Full-HD video, HDMI output, and fun digital effects filters. The latter allows a greater degree of hands-on control – a press of the ‘func/set’ button to the right of the camera’s backplate providing access to a much wider range of manually selectable options.
Again, not the fastest ever but neither is it something you notice holding you up as you progress from one shot to the next. There are the usual fisheye and pinhole camera style effects, plus a super vivid setting and monochrome for those who want to inject an artistic moodiness into shots. With as a default the camera biasing whatever is dead centre of frame, most will be pleased with the results though, and images are generally well exposed and crisp in terms of detail – as long as you don't enlarge portions and scrutinize them too closely. It’s useful in situations where the light means you can’t be confident of getting a good shot, but the fact that it’s limited to 3M resolution is somewhat disappointing. This latest camera, the 220 HS, sits comfortably in a pocket thanks to its diminutive size and weight of 122g.
It`s important to say that i-Contrast can be applied after the actual shot has been taken, through camera options, having much more control over the final image, but the results are not as good this way as when shot with i-Contrast in the first place (but it`s better than risking a ruined photo). Great autofocus and low-light performance, 40fps, pro video features – six ways the full-frame hybrid EOS R8 can widen your creative horizons. First of all, I should make it clear that the new camera is not going to be replacing my Olympus E-1, a sophisticated if now aging DSLR which I will continue to use for serious photography. The Canon IXUS 220 HS does offer a few advanced skills that will be of interest to casual snappers though. I’m not going to produce noise and colour tests for the camera, nor am I going to list the various functions and features of the camera.
I love having the 24mm wide-angle, the video works nicely, and the auto white balance and exposure are pretty good (when I keep it at -2/3 stop). When I was after my (then) new IXUS 220HS, the basic idea was to get a bit better quality compact, easy to carry around for every-day shooting occasions, and with at least some chance of handling a low-light situations - mostly in automatic mode. The Fujifilm XF 23mm F2 R WR delivers a 35mm full-frame equivalent field of view and stands out due to its small size and weather-resistant build. Press this in either shooting mode and a toolbar appears at the left hand side of the screen, rather more densely populated with options when in Program as opposed to Smart Auto mode, which merely allows adjustment of image quality (Fine or Normal) and compression levels (Large, Medium or Small), image aspect ratio (the default 4:3, 3:2, 16:9, or most surprising of all 1:1), self timer, and video resolution (the full 1920x1080, dropping down incrementally to 320x240 pixels). All of the sample images in this Review were taken using the 10 megapixel Fine JPEG setting, which gives an average image size of around 2.Nobody will be surprised, least of all us, that there is no actual handgrip or rest of any sort provided on the 220 HS for a firmer grip.
Hit your productivity targets with inkjet and laser printers that are a perfect fit for any workspace – including home offices. Sure, like any compact camera it has its issues with pixel fringing and loss of sharpness towards the corners of the frame heightened by that wider than average 24mm equivalent wide angle setting. As this button is level with the body, accidental activation is largely prevented, though it is possible. To make picture taking easy, there is Smart Auto which selected from a total of 32 different scenes.
Have a scour around the net and you’ll see countless glowing reviews for the Canon Ixus 220 HS camera. Things have moved on since then, and with the Canon IXUS 220 HS, Canon hope to appeal to a whole new generation.
